The demented, unforgiving land mass that is Bison; a broken chain; a closed pub; two incidences of falling off bikes; one incidence of boxers worn under cycling shorts. The universe threatened to derail the first big ride of the season. Would newbie ever come back? Would Pelatom do another ride ever again? Would boxers under cycling shorts become a fashion statement? All important questions, with no way on finding the answers until we cranked those pedals.

But the bad news wasn’t so bad. Pelatom will never be defeated. Long life Pelatom!

The sun shone, The Hub’s large machiatos and cake hit the spot, and Bison’s bark was bigger than it’s bite. The view helped on the hill, along with the sound of the penguins drifting over the fence from Whipsnade Zoo. Jam should know – he was walking past, having had his chain snap half way up the infamous hump of earth. Flex and The Machine stepped in to save the day, and why should we expect it to have not been fixed in less than 10 minutes? The team are well rehearsed in fixing chains after all.

Onwards to Ashridge, and lunch at The Red Lion in Potten End.

The Lads (Maverick, The Machine and Clif Bar – who else) asserted their manliness, and the size of their humongous testiclé, by extending their ride to laps of Regents Park, and hitting a century.

It was a good day for Pelatom.

On to the next ride!
